Honoring #42 Robinson

Today all Major League Baseball players wore uniforms with the number 42 to honor Jackie Robinson.

Select one of the principles below and describe how this is meaningful to you

  1. Communication is the process of sending and receiving messages among others.
  2. Communication matters because we are affected by messages.
  3. Communication is neither good nor bad. It exists and we cannot not communicate.
  4. The greater the need to communicate well, the harder it is to do.
  5. How do you know whether you are effective as a communicator? You have to ask someone else.
  6. Meanings are in people. Communication messages have both denotative and connotative meanings.
  7. You can overhear but you can’t overlisten.
  8. Don’t try to get rid of communication nerves. Learn to expect, accept, and use nervousness.
  9. There are five levels of communication: phatic, factual, evaluative, gut, and peak.
