Bio

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about my teaching style.  My name is Mrs. Pamela Parker and I live in Fredericksburg, VA.  I have two sons who are currently serving in the Military.  My oldest son is married and they have two beautiful children who call me “MiMi”.   My husband of 20 years and  moved to this Fredricksburg from a little town in Southeast VA called Franklin, when I started teaching at NVCC.  It is very close to the North Carolina line, so lots of people say I have an accent.

I received my Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting and Small Business Management from Chowan University in 2006.  I received my Master’s degree in Accounting from Strayer University in 2009.  I have been teaching at the college level for several years and have taught at several different colleges including Chowan University, Roanoke Chowan Community College, and Tidewater Community College.  Before becoming an accounting professor I worked as a bookkeeper, a accounts payable manager, a tax preparer, and owned my own business.

My teaching philosophy is to facilitate the learning of accounting through real-world examples, demonstration of problems and concepts, and discussion of concepts with students.  I believe that the responsibility of learning the material lies with the student and my responsibility is to provide the tools needed to facilitate the learning.  My classes consist of problem-solving, discussion, and techniques to remember the important concepts.

To be successful in my classes a student needs to read the material, practice the concepts, participate in classroom discussions and activities, and attend class regularly.  I conduct office hours for students to meet with me for one-on-one assistance and to discuss any issues that may come up during the semester. My office hours are listed on the Syllabus, on Canvas, and on the right hand side of this page.

I look forward to working with everyone at NVCC this semester and I wish you much success in your academic endeavors both at NVCC and beyond.  Please feel free to contact me by email at phparker@nvcc.edu if you have any questions or concerns.
