AN-Lyceum Event: What Your Mouth Says About Your Health, Feb. 1

The Annandale Campus Lyceum Committee invites you to attend a discussion on “What your mouth says about your health” with Prof. Marina D. McGraw. This event will be held from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. on WednesdayFeb. 1, in CA-302 on the Annandale Campus

The overall content will address how nutrition and oral health have a bidirectional relationship. 

The discussion will include the following key points: 

  • How nutritional deficiencies may affect oral health regarding growth, development, healing and diseases of the oral cavity.  
  • Signs that can occur in the oral cavity that might indicate nutritional challenges. This will be connected to dental hygiene as well.

Marina D. McGraw is the associate dean of health sciences at NOVA’s Medical Education Campus. She has been a dental hygienist for more than 26 years, 18 of those years in private practice in Charlottesville, Va. and the last eight and a half at NOVA. She is currently a doctoral student in health science at Eastern Virginia Medical School in Norfolk. She earned her M.S. in health administration from University of Phoenix in Phoenix, Ariz.; her B.S. in health science from Old Dominion University and an A.A.S. in dental hygiene from Virginia Western Community College in Roanoke. Marina has a 13-year-old daughter and enjoys reading and a variety of outdoor activities.
