Take Chinese Online with NOVA this Fall Semester

Sign up for 2022 Fall Synchronous Virtual and Online Chinese Courses (Virginia Residents over 60 can take our courses free of charge). Come and Join Us this Fall to:

  1. Meet People Who Are Interested in Learning Other Languages and Cultures.
  2. Cultivate a Deeper Understanding of Chinese Language and Traditions.
  3. Be Able to Speak Mandarin with 1,117 million Mandarin Speakers, Of Course, One at a Time.

 Beginning Chinese I CHI 101-040A (62135) for four credits

4:00 pm  to 6:00 pm Monday and Wednesday for 13 weeks.

 Beginning Chinese II CHI 102-040A (62136) for four credits

12:45 pm to 2:45 pm Monday and Wednesday for 13 weeks.

The first class meeting will be on Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2022 for the above two courses and the session will end on Dec. 13, 2022.

Beginning Chinese II CHI 102- E60A (62136) for four credits

Intermediate Chinese I CHI 201- E60A (61761) for four credits

 All Our NOVA Online Courses will have a one-hour synchronous online meeting per week during the weekly evening hours.

All six Chinese courses will end on Dec. 13, 2022.

  1. China is one of the world’s oldest and richest continuous cultures, over 4000 years old.
  2. With a population of 1.3 billion, Chinese is the second most widely spoken language in the world after English.
  3. China is the second largest economy in the world and the largest trading partner of the United States.
  4. Learning Chinese will improve your job prospects in the government and many businesses.
  5. Chinese is a fascinating language with no conjunction, no gender, no inflection, and no case.

At NOVA, Chinese courses fulfill the foreign language requirement and general elective requirements for degrees.  Our 200-level courses will count towards Humanities Electives and fulfill the foreign language requirement for Liberal Arts degrees and are transferrable to four-year colleges. The 100-level courses will count towards General Electives.  If you are obtaining a Science Degree or any other degree where foreign language is not required, the 200 level courses will count towards your Humanities Electives.
