Job Title: Urban Agriculture Intern

Description: Green Spring Gardens is a 31-acre public garden with a 1784 Historic House that offers themed gardens for enjoyment, education and inspiration. Visit our website at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/parks/green-spring/.
The Urban Agriculture Intern will assist with the administration of Fairfax County’s Garden Plot Rental Program. Duties will include physical clearing of plots for new tenants (manual labor), writing a weekly summary of activities in our Demonstration Garden for distribution to 650 gardeners (creative writing), interacting with gardeners to implement program policies (networking), and compiling data in spreadsheet format (data entry and simple statistics). Special projects as assigned. Interns will be exposed to project planning and administration and gain skills in communicating with a diverse audience.

Compensation: Interns will be temporary, part-time employees of the Fairfax County Park Authority. Compensation is $11.55 hour for up to 285 hours. Start and end dates are negotiable.

Hours: 15 hours per week (must be on-site)
9am -2pm Thursdays and two other days (not on Tuesdays)
Start Date: March 15, 2022
End Date: August 12, 2022

Requirements: Applicants must be enrolled in a two- or four-year horticulture, botany, environmental education or similar degree program. Preferred applicants will have good written communication skills as well as experience and/or commitment to educating adults in best gardening practices. Applicants must be able to lift 25 lbs., walk on uneven terrain, work outdoors and have own transportation. Selected intern must provided proof of Covid-19 vaccination.
