Banned Book Week 2012

On October 3rd the Gordon M. Cook Library, Woodbridge Campus, hosted a program highlighting “Banned Book Week”, featuring banned titles selected by the following NOVA faculty and staff:  Robert Bausch, Denise Bausch, Margaret Benson-McCarthy, Kelly Cochran, Kerry Cotter, Virginia D’Antonio, Jessica Fure, Ashtara De Furia, Erin Devine, Brenda Meisel, Erika Nyborg, Chaiya Ortiz, LeeAnn Thomas, Jacqueline Weaver, and Diane Wilson.  The readers selected sections from works that have been the subject of a request or action to restrict access to them by others.  It was an extremely well attended program which included a light reception.  The library staff would like to thank all participants for making this an enjoyable event.

Cook Library is reorganizing our collection

In preparation for the library move in the late Spring/Summer 2013 the Cook Library is reorganizing our collection.  The DVD collection will be inter-shelved with our regular circulating book collection.  It is our hope this will improve your browsing experience.

For example, a student looking for the book Anna Karenina will locate the film right next to the book.  Even if the student had been unaware the library owned the movie or did not think to look, they now have immediate access to the item and can decide if they would like to check it out too.

Many of our library visitors are interested in DVDs for recreation and may be worried about having to navigate the huge stacks to find the movies they enjoy.  Don’t worry, we have you covered!  Please remember the call numbers PN 1992- PN1997.5 and you will easily find our entertainment section.

As always, feel free to contact any of the library staff if you have any questions.

Cook Library Changes

You may have noticed some changes around the Cook Library.  We have placed the entire reference collection into the circulating book stacks to make more room for you!  This empty area will soon be filled with additional seating.

Although the reference collection is now located in the regular book stacks, the “in library use” policy for these materials remains the same.  As always, if you have any questions, feel free to contact a friendly library staff member.
