Quick Guide to Research Guides

research guides

This may look like a jumble of images and it is, but it is also a quick view into how Research guides work and why you should use them. Follow along as I explain #1 through #5

#1 : The “Research Guides” tab on the library home page is where you access links to research guides sorted by subject, campus or all guides listed alphabetically.

#2 : For this example, I selected to view the guides by Subject and by doing this you will see different areas of study. When you click on the plus sign, specific guides are displayed.

#3 : The Information Technology guide is a great example of what resources we have to offer students, such as databases, books, articles and career information. Just surf through the tabs at the top of the page!

#4 : The “Articles” tab contains databases that art specific to computer sciences and information technology. Multi-disciplinary databases such as Academic Search Complete are great, but it’s also important to go to subject specific databases while doing research.

#5 : Don’t forget about citing your work!! The most important step of all is to make sure that your work can be verified. If you aren’t sure how to cite, review the appropriate guide (MLA, APA, Chicago) and make an appointment for the Annandale Writing Center!

Remember: never hesitate to contact the library when you have questions. We love to hear from students and help them with research…it’s what we’re here for!
