February Blooming!

In honor of the annual corn plant bloom, here’s a post we shared way back in February of 2012!:

“The two resident corn plants (Dracaena fragrans), located by the south entrance of the library, are in bloom!  When in bloom, the surrounding air is filled with a burst of floral fragrance – but only in the evening and sometimes the early morning.  I have never seen (much less smelled) a corn plant in bloom before.  Naturally my curiosity led me to our plant expert and Circulation Specialist, Supie Wolf.  Supie shared (and I am re-sharing) the following informative piece written about the blooming corn plants.  This piece was written by Librarian, Paula DeRoy for our library’s 2009 Spring newsletter.

While it looks like we’re on the tail end of this round of sweet smells, we should get another burst of bloom and fragrance later on this year!”
