Fairfax County Urban Forest Management Division

Duties: Participate in field surveys to collect data pertaining to forest pests such as EAB, spotted lanternfly, and others. Implement forest pest treatment activities in assigned areas including tree injections. Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications to record the position of forest pests and other natural resources. Participate in activities associated with tree planting. Assess sites to identify planting locations. Plant trees, often with Fairfax County K-12 students. Perform basic tree maintenance to include mulching, watering, and pruning. Green Spring Gardens and the Fairfax County Farmers Markets (FCFM) invites qualified undergraduate students to apply for our 2021 summer internship program. We are seeking an intern who can assist in promoting the Farmers Markets, supporting SNAP (Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program), and coordinating logistics in preparation for National Farmers Market week, and other promotional events. The White Gardens

Horticultural Intern at White Gardens

The John C. and Margaret K. White Gardens is a new public garden in Falls Church with an azalea, rhododendron, and camellia collection established by John and Margaret White. The thirteen-acre garden is under development. Internship activities will focus on
identifying, mapping, and developing a management plan for invasive plants, and organizing and leading volunteers for monthly workdays. Knowledge of GIS/GPS-based mapping systems is desired, and experience working with volunteers will be beneficial.
