Northern Virginia Community College: Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Program

The Program is located in Prince William County in beautiful Woodbridge, VA. It’s under the Division of Mathematics, Sciences, Technologies & Business (MSTB). The MSTB Division is located in WAS building on the third floor.

The Program has its own building WAC (Woodbridge Air Conditioning) with a state of the art Laboratory facility. It’s also accredited by HVAC Excellence.

It offers High School Student a head start with the possibility to gain college credits with collaboration with Prince William County School (PWCS) and Fairfax County Public Schools (FCPS). This is called the Dual Enrollment Program.

The HVAC-R field is comprised of Heating, Venting, Air Conditioning & Refrigeration.

It is a highly, technological field that involves the science of engineering technology and a lot of common sense.

There are millions and millions of US dollars invested in human comfort and food preservation. It’s a year-round business that needs quality-honest technicians and highly motivated people.

This is a program where you can start working, right away. Although (full-time or part-time) jobs are not guaranteed, some of our students find work within the first semester of enrollment; the majority of our students find full-time positions in the field of HVAC-R after a year. Most of our graduates are fully ready to take the Journey-level License examination through DPOR, the Commonwealth of Virginia after the completion of the Associates Degree.

The program hosts an HVAC Job Fair on campus yearly and also partners with industry professionals to shape the curriculum to meet the everchanging demands of the field. These Industry Partners includes HVAC companies that do residential, commercial and industrial works. Some of them are even government contractors. It invites public sector entities as well in the federal, state & county levels.

A good education is worth the money for the investment to oneself in this technological field. NVCC offers these important fundamental HVAC-R courses. In fact, it offers two certificates: HVAC-R & Facilities Management Career Certificate, Air conditioning and Refrigeration Certificate and an Associate of Applied Science Degree. Underneath, here is the Web-Link for a New York Times article, on how to get a job at Google. It’s not always the brightest, or the highest GPA student, or an Ivy League Student that Google will hire. Instead, it is the hardest working, who can take an order, who can take directions, and being a team player are the key to success in this business.
