Horticulture Apprentice- Oak Spring Garden Foundation
Are you still trying to figure out what you’re doing during winter break? I know it might seem far away, but trust me it’s coming sooner than you think! If you’re still looking for a position to fulfill your HRT 297 Cooperative Education requirement or looking for real-world experience starting Decemeber 2022, then I have the opportunity for you! Oak Spring Garden Foundation in Upperville, VA is looking for TWO full-time Horticulture Apprentices starting in December! The position is paid, has the potential for housing if needed, and provides PTO, as well as paid holidays! They are taking applications now to begin reviewing on December 1st.

Horticulture Club Updates- October
College Transfer Fair- Loudoun Campus October 13th

In partnership with the Virginia Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (VACRAO), NOVA will host in-person college transfer fairs on Oct. 12 and Oct. 13. These events provide students the opportunity to meet with representatives from over 50 colleges and universities in order to learn more about the transfer process. Please encourage students to attend so they can better understand how to turn their transfer dreams into reality!
The transfer fair schedule is as follows:
- Woodbridge Campus, Wednesday, October 12, 10 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Seefeldt Building (WS), 1st Floor Atrium
- Alexandria Campus, Wednesday, October 12, 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., Fine Arts Building (AFA), Gym and Dance Studio
- Annandale Campus, Thursday, October 13, 10:30 a.m. until 12 p.m., Richard J. Ernst Cultural Center (CE), Gymnasium
- Loudoun Campus, Thursday, October 13, 1:30 p.m. until 3 p.m., Higher Education Center (HEC), Event Center

First Fall Horticulture Club Meeting- A Successful Start to a Great Year!
Thank you to all that attended the first NVCC Horticulture Club meeting of the 2022-2023 School Year!
During this meeting, we voted for new club officers, settled dates for upcoming events throughout the semester, and had a great plant giveaway.

Horticulture Haunt: Pumpkin Carving and Costume Contest Thursday, October 20th, 2022 4:30-6:30pm LS 102
-Come by to Carve your best pumpkin or drop off your submission prior to the meeting
-Winner of the Carving and Costume Contest will be voted on by club members via google form that will be sent out following the meeting
-Winners from each contest will receive an amazingly haunted Horticulture Prize
Fall Color Frolicks: November Hikes to view the amazing splendor of our area celebrating the change of the seasons

Nature Journaling- Virtual Event

Virtual, Zoom Calling all nature lovers once again! Nature journaling is a great way to relax, be in the present moment and practice your drawing skills. Join fellow nature enthusiast Emily Yeatts via zoom on Thursday, September 22, from 11 a.m. to noon to learn nature journaling techniques, find a specimen to observe and make your first journal entry. Horticulture Club First Meeting!
Horticulture Club is having its first meeting for the 2022-2023 school year! This meeting will include officer elections, social activities, food, drinks, and a free plant raffle of propagules from the greenhouse!

Teaches skills required for the composition of basic table arrangements. Includes the history of design styles, identification of flowers and greens, identification and use of equipment, and conditioning and handling of flowers
Materials Fee: $175
Lecture 2 hours. Laboratory 2 hours. Total 4 hours per week.
