Financial Avenue – Financial Literacy Contest – Twenty $100 NOVA bookstore gift cards towards educational costs at NOVA will be given-away throughout the 2016‐2017 academic year to randomly selected students NOVA Online who successfully complete Financial Avenue web‐based financial literacy modules! Join our eLEAD series this spring!

Are you looking for an opportunity to identify and develop your overall leadership skills?

NOVA Online Student Life has created a virtual co-curricular opportunity to develop leadership skills for students! eLEAD is a 4-week asynchronous program delivered via Blackboard. The overall goal is to foster a sense of community among students taking online courses, to develop more self-awareness of leadership strengths and skills, and to help you maximize your talents as they relate to academic and professional goals.

This program is free and does not offer academic credit, however, students who participate will receive a certificate of completion. This is also a great resume builder!

Dates: March 13th – April 9th

Time: Work at your pace with weekly deadlines for group discussions and journal reflections.

Student Emergency Grant

The Student Emergency Grant program at Northern Virginia Community College operates to provide one-time financial support to students experiencing an enrollment-threatening financial emergency. Emergency funds are not intended to pay for routine education expenses and are only allocated for sudden, unexpected, or unforeseen occurrences that require immediate attention and would otherwise impact a student’s ability to remain enrolled at NOVA. Funds are not available for tuition, fees, or books. The maximum award is $500 per student.

If a student needs financial assistance paying for tuition or books, your Financial Aid Advisor can provide you with assistance in applying for the NOVA Book and Access Grant and others.

Democracy Builders Essay Contest. Democracy depends on an informed citizenry actively participating in decisions, and that civil discourse is an essential part of the process. Essays may address specific current critical and/or controversial topics, at local, regional, state, or national levels.  Be creative and dream big.  The essays will be judged by a NOVA faculty panel and are due by March 17, 2017. The contest is sponsored by professors Reva Savkar and Robert Loser. Up to five essays will be selected for prizes of $100 each. Calculate Anticipated Aid Based on Actual Enrollment

Why Should I Review My Anticipated Financial Aid?

If you are awarded Financial Aid before the semester begins, your award will be based on anticipated full-time enrollment in at least 12 credits. If you choose to enroll in less than 12 credit hours, your Financial Aid award may be adjusted. Please follow the steps below to learn how to view award adjustments based on actual enrollment.

Log in to Your MyNOVA Account to View the Anticipated Financial Aid

Step 1: Log in to NOVA Connect by clicking on MyNOVA on the NOVA home page.

Step 2: Click on VCCS SIS: Student Information System

  • Click on Self Service
  • Click on Student Center
  • Scroll down to the Finances tab and click on Account Inquiry
  • Click on VCCS SIS: Student Information System

Step 3: Click the yellow button that reads, “CLICK HERE to see Pending Financial Aid Based on Actual Enrollment”

LiveSafeinstalled on your phone yet? In our continuing commitment to the highest level of campus safety, NOVA has launched a new mobile safety app called LiveSafe. The LiveSafe app will improve communication between students, faculty, staff and NOVA Police, and will facilitate emergency response in critical situations. Our goal is to work with you to help build a safer campus. The LiveSafe app allows you to: Report tips to or request emergency services anonymously from NOVA Police; Send your location to NOVA Police; Let friends or family monitor your movements, so you never have to walk alone; Share your concerns and suggestions with NOVA Police; Have critical safety information at your fingertips. Members of the college community, including students, staff, faculty, and parents are encouraged to download the free app through the iTunes or Google Play stores for their iPhone and Android devices. Type in “LiveSafe” and download the app with the blue shield today!
