Workforce Development Division offers New Real Estate Finance Online Course

The Workforce Development Division is proud to announce a new and exclusive online web series, Mortgage Banking Bound, presented by Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA), the national association which represents the entire real estate finance industry. Mortgage Banking Bound is designed to complement a student’s current coursework at NOVA and provide access to the world of the real estate finance industry and the possible career opportunities it presents.

Students interested in participating in Mortgage Banking Bound will gain knowledge of mortgage lending by industry experts, have access to MBA member-only benefits, networking opportunities with MBA’s leading member companies and professionals as well as explore industry careers. Upon completing the Mortgage Banking Bound curriculum, individuals will receive a certificate of completion presented by the Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) as well as an MBA Student membership.

Workforce Development Division to Host Workforce Industry Building Learning Series Career Mobility for Women Event

You are invited to attend the next installment of the Workforce Industry Learning Series titled;

Career Mobility for Women in the Workplace

Hosted by: Northern Virginia Community College’s Workforce Development Division

Kristina Bouweiri is the innovative chief executive of Reston Limousine, Washington, D.C.’s premier chauffeured transportation provider and one of the top 20 largest operators in the nation. Ms. Bouweiri will give a presentation titled “Career Mobility for Women in the Workplace”. She will present ways for women to execute mobility in the workplace. She will also share her personal experience as a woman in the workplace. This is one event you won’t want to miss!

Attendees will have the opportunity to pose questions to Ms. Bouweiri at the end of her presentation regarding this important Northern Virginia economic topic.

Workforce Development Division Hosts STEM Career Fair

On October 29, 2014 the Workforce Development Division hosted its Inaugural Workforce Industry Career Fair. The theme for this event, which was launched by the Business Development Group, focused on STEM recruiting. This event attracted fourteen marquee corporations including Verizon, Apple Inc., Discovery Communications, Novec, Enterprise Management Systems, e-Intern, ASM Research, Hanover Research, HCA Healthcare, Telos Corp., Finnegan, CGH Technologies and Pro Sol Associates as recruiting exhibitors. More than 70 job seekers, including experienced engineering and IT professionals took advantage of this opportunity to meet the exhibitors seeking to fill STEM positions at their companies.

A feedback survey clearly reflected a strong demand for these types of solutions-focused events in the Northern Virginia business community. 89% of business participants said they would attend future Workforce Industry Career Fairs at NOVA. Plans are underway for the Business Development Group to continue collaboration efforts with all of the companies to address their most pressing workforce development needs.

On September 17, 2014 the Workforce Development Division in collaboration with the Office of Global Studies and Programs delivered a presentation to a delegation of nine Russian higher education administrators. Janet S. Clarke, a Business Development Manager for the Workforce Development Division provided a 30 minute presentation on how NOVA’s Workforce Development Division interacts with the local community and meets the training needs of local industry sectors. Janet also discussed the importance of continuous engagement with the business community.  This engagement gives the college the ability to develop education solutions that best address the skill needs of the business community.  The result of this engagement is long term economic growth for the region.  The presentation was well received by all in attendance.
