NOVA Shuttle’s Winter Break and Spring changes

For the Winter Break, the NOVA Shuttle will operate on its normal schedule through December 19th.

There will be no shuttle service after December 19th until Monday, January 5th, when the shuttle will resume operations.

There will be schedule changes starting January 5th, for Route C (Alexandria – Braddock Road) and Route E (MEC – Franconia-Springfield).image002

Route C will be adjusted to arrive on campus every hour on the hour and at the metro every half hour.
Route E will be adjusted to go from campus to the Food Court at Springfield Town Center to the Metro.

Christmas at Mount Vernon
Community Event !!!

Admission: Event included with purchase of a general admission ticket $18 adults ($17 online); $8 children ages 6-11; free children ages 5 and under

Mount Vernon is joyfully decking the halls for Christmas at Mount Vernon, a special daytime program offered through January. Themed decorations (including 12 Christmas trees) and historical chocolate-making demonstrations will be offered. Tour the rarely-open third floor of the Mansion and learn how the Washingtons celebrated Christmas. In 1787, George Washington paid 18 shillings to bring a camel to Mount Vernon for the enjoyment of his guests. During Christmas at Mount Vernon, visitors can meet a camel on the grounds.

Christmas Illuminations at Mount Vernon

Ring in the holiday season with sparkling fireworks overlooking the Potomac River at George Washington’s Mount Vernon on Saturday, December 20!

For the first time ever, Mount Vernon will open its doors for an evening of holiday-themed fireworks and special programs. Before the fireworks show at 8:45 p.m.,

Christmas Illuminations at Mount Vernon offers guests a chance to step back in time and experience a festive holiday evening at the first president’s estate. Stroll through the historic area while being serenaded by local choirs.

Watch as colonial artisans demonstrate the 18th-century process of creating chocolate. Visit a winter encampment and meet re-enactors from the First Virginia Regiment. Enjoy cider, cookies, and a bonfire while listening to the harmonious sounds of musicians performing 18th-century tunes. Impress holiday guests by learning 18th-century dance moves with costumed guides in the Greenhouse. Warm up in the blacksmith shop – a working reconstruction of Washington’s blacksmith shop. Sip hot chocolate while watching a fireworks show choreographed to holiday music over the Potomac River. “General and Lady Washington” along with a cast of costumed characters from the 18th century will be on hand to greet Mount Vernon’s holiday guests. Waterskiing Santa Comes to Old Town Alexandria

Now in its 29th year, this favorite DC-area Christmas Eve event comes to Old Town Alexandria for the very first time. NOVA-AL Music Ensembles to play Holiday Concert | Tuesday, 9 December 2014

Celebrate the holiday season listening to much-beloved favorites such as “Sleigh Ride” by Leroy Anderson, “The First Noel,” “Carol of the Bells,” “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” music from “The Polar Express” and more at this year’s Holiday Concert on the Alexandria Campus of Northern Virginia Community College.

Other selections include a Chanukah Cantata and music by W.A. Mozart, Ralph Vaughan Williams, Gustav Holst, and Mel Torme.  The musical event will feature the NOVA Community Chorus, the NOVA Alexandria Jazz Ensemble and the Alexandria Band.
