“Elect Her – NOVA Women Win!”

Registration now open!  “Elect Her – NOVA Women Win!”  is an event which trains women students to run for student government positions this spring and encourages women to run for local, state and national elected positions in their future.  This free leadership training program is open to women students at all campuses and is scheduled for Friday, February 26 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 pm at the Alexandria Campus.    This free, nationally acclaimed training program, designed to address the need to expand the pipeline to women running for office and diminish the longstanding political leadership gender gap, is co-sponsored by the Alexandria Campus Women’s Center, Running Start, and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). Seating is limited to 50 women students from all six campuses and includes ELI students.  To register, contact Pat Gordon at pgordon@nvcc.edu to receive a registration form. Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society Tau Nu Chapter Founders’ Day Ceremony

On Thursday, 19 November 2015, the Tau Nu Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa held its Founders Day Ceremony at the Alexandria Campus. Over 30 attendees had the honor of welcoming the new inductees into this prestigious fraternal society.

The keynote speaker, Dr. Chad Knights shared with the attendees his academic journey, trials, and tribulations.  He also encouraged the new inductees and all attendees to always challenge yourself to dream the impossible dream, and to run where the brave dare not go.

Established by Missouri two-year college presidents in 1918, Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society continues to recognize and encourage the academic achievement of two-year college students.

Congratulation to our new inductees!

NBC 4 News Coverage at AL Campus

Local news station NBC 4 dropped by NOVA-Alexandria to speak with students and Ceramics Professor Jessica Gardner about their partnership with ALIVE! The NOVA-Alexandria fine arts department partnered with the local nonprofit organization to create unique ceramic bowls for their fundraiser event Empty Bowls Alexandria.

Although Empty Bowls Alexandria has become a successful event nationwide, it was ALIVE’s first time hosting the event. NOVA-Alexandria’s fine arts department had a goal to create 100 bowls for the event as a gift to those in attendance and to remind people of those in need right in our own region.

With many students creating several bowls each, the ceramics department was able to exceed their goal and create more pieces for themselves, friends and family. Find full news coverage of the event and the fine arts department’s partnership with ALIVE on NBC 4’s website.

ALEXANDRIA TESTING CENTER

NOVA Alexandria Testing Center

For the most up to date information and other helpful tips, follow us on Twitter @AlexTestCtr

  • Effective Nov. 13th, you will be asked to leave cell phones and purses in your vehicles, lockers upstairs, or containers provided by the Testing Center.
  • We also encourage you not to bring large bags or bulky coats to the Testing Center as we still haven’t received our lockers.
  • The Testing Center becomes busier at the end of the semester. Even if you don’t see us with students, we may be processing their tests. Please be patient and we will call you up to the desk as soon as we can.

Try not to wait until the last day to test as this increases test anxiety. You’ll want to get your test done so you can relax and enjoy your break!
