Reviewing for VPT Math
- The importance of reviewing material that you previously studied cannot be over emphasized. The VPT Math site provides supplemental study materials for the Math Placement Test.
- The placement test is not an admissions test or an aptitude test.
- The test measures how well you demonstrate skills. Your score indicates the courses you are prepared to take.
- Not reviewing before taking the placement test could possibly place you in a course that is lower than your actual skill level, delaying your math sequence by one or more semesters, costing you time and money.
- Starting your review process early will give you time to practice, so you will hopefully feel more confident in doing your best on the placement test.
- The VPT Math may also test your pre-calculus knowledge if you demonstrate sufficient skills on Units 0 through 9. This portion of the test will determine if you have the necessary math skills to enroll in calculus courses such as MTH 271 or MTH 173.
Retest Policy
- One retest is allowed within 12 months of the initial attempt on the Math Virginia Placement Test.
- If the 12 month retest period expires and the student still has not registered for a math course, the student may test again and retest one more time within the next 12 months start over.
- Once you enroll in a Math course (including developmental), you may not retest.
- Test scores are valid for five years.
