Temporary Summer Gardener- Dumbarton Oaks

Dunbarton Oaks, located in Washington D.C. and trustee for Harvard University, is looking for an experienced seasonal gardener! They’re looking to fill a full-time, term position not to exceed six months. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in working at Dumbarton Oaks, or wishing to gain additional experience in historic landscape gardening. While this position is limited to a six-month term, this candidate could be a strong internal candidate for future permanent gardening positions. So if you’re looking to dip your toes in the water, or looking for a summer job between semesters, this could be the position for you! This position is also eligible to be utilized for HRT 297 Cooperative Education credit if you still need to it fulfill your graduation requirements!

Arboriculture, Conservation and Landscape Apprentice- Oak Spring Garden Foundation

Those still looking for a summer opportunity, this is for you! Oaksprings Garden Foundation is looking for an Arboriculture, Conservation, and Landscape Apprentice for the summer 2023 season! The Oak Spring Garden Foundation is based in Upperville, Virginia, and operates with a mission to share Rachel Lambert Mellon’s home, garden, estate, and Library with the public. The Foundation inspires and facilitates scholarship and public dialogue on the history and future of plants. This includes but is not limited to the culture of gardens and landscapes and the importance of plants for human well-being. This apprenticeship position will work closely with the Biodiversity Management Team, and gain experience in facets of horticulture such as invasive plant management, landscape maintenance, arboriculture, and turf care. If this interests you, don’t hesitate to apply! Their summer season begins May 2023 which is right around the corner!

Dumbarton Oaks in Washington DC is looking for a Temporary Seasonal Gardener. As a temporary summer gardener, you will assist in the general maintenance of the Dumbarton Oaks gardens and grounds. Actively participates in the daily care and maintenance of this historic 16-acre property including 10 acres of formal gardens and terraces. Works under the general supervision of the garden director, and the direct guidance of Foreperson and Crew Leaders. Works alongside gardeners, interns, and volunteers within the assigned crew, with particular responsibility for the maintenance duties pertaining to the crews’ designated sections of the gardens

Legacy Farms is a 501(c)3 non-profit with gardens on the grounds of Temple Hall Farm Regional Park and Fabbioli Cellars, just outside of  Leesburg. Our neurodiverse team of staff, mentors, and apprentices grow and deliver herbs, flowers, and vegetables to area businesses, CSA customers, and food pantries. The nonprofit offers a vocational training program for neurodivergent individuals ages 16 and up, focused on mentoring job skills, increased self-awareness, and personal development. Legacy Farms is launching a profit-focused flower business based on its two-year track record of delivering a robust floral CSA called Legacy Blooms. The objective of this floral business, over time, will be to generate revenue sufficient to self-fund the nonprofit’s vocational training programs and goals for supporting neurodiversity.
