What is Google Assignment LTI 1.3?

Google Assignments LTI 1.3 comes as a better replacement for the Google Apps integration in Canvas assignments.

Google Assignments LTI 1.3 makes Google Docs and Google Drive compatible with Canvas for file submissions. As an instructor, you can create a document that you would like your students to fill out or complete. When you attach that file to a Canvas assignment using the Google Assignments LTI 1.3, each student receives a copy of the file in their Google Drive, completes the file, and submits the file back to you for review and feedback.

Benefits

  • Each student receives their own copy of an instructor created Google formatted document (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.) in their VCCS Google Drive.
  • Assignment files are organized automatically inside Assignments Folder inside VCCS Google Drives.
  • Instructors can provide inline feedback.
  • Student submissions are not returned to the Canvas Speed grader. Instead, student submissions are available inside the desired assignment  and assessed using the Google Feedback suite.
  • Scores may experience a lag between instructor grading and appearing in the Canvas Gradebook.
  • Instructors cannot use Canvas Rubrics at this time, limiting the instructor’s ability to assess using Outcomes. However, they can create and use the rubrics inside the Google assignments LTI 1.3.
