Here you can peruse the Open Educational Resources (OER) developed at Northern Virginia Community College. We have developed OER Labs curriculum for two life science courses:  BIO141 (Human Anatomy and Physiology) and BIO101 (Introductory College Biology).

BIO141 (A&P 1) is the first semester of a two-course sequence in human anatomy and physiology suitable for pre-nursing and other allied health students.  As such, these 13 labs are suitable for a one semester, 100-or 200-level undergraduate human anatomy and physiology class or an upper level high school biology class.

BIO101 is a semester-long mixed-majors class that transfers to 4-year universities. As such, these labs are appropriate for both majors and non-majors at the undergraduate 100-level or even an upper level high school biology class, such as that used for Dual Enrollment or Advanced Placement.

Each A&P I lab begins with a relevant case study. As students progress through the lab, they learn how to solve the Case. Students are encouraged to apply what they learn. There are questions sprinkled throughout the lab, and each lab contains homework questions (a post-lab) which may be collected, reviewed, and graded.

In addition, for many labs we provide an instructor memo that includes the materials required to do the lab as written, as well as a sample instructor powerpoint. As OER materials, you are free to use whatever you wish, according to the rules of applied Creative Commons attribution. As an OER resource, students don’t pay anything for using these materials. On this public site, we do not include the Answer Keys for the labs, but they are available. Please simply fill out the contact information form (Below).
